Farbglasdach nach Johannes Ittens Farbkreis an der Energiezentrale
der ehemaligen Textilfärberei Terlinden / Zürich – Küsnacht (CH) / 2019
Die Energiezentrale der ehemaligen Textilfärberei Terlinden besteht aus einem Gebäudeensemble, dessen transparente und dynamische Architektur durch ein 100 m2 großes Glasdach über dem Haupteingang verstärkt wird. Mit THE CHROMATIC CIRCLE OF JOHANNES ITTEN bereichert Ritchie Riediger das bisher klarsichtige Glasdach um ein Farbkonzept. Dazu löst der Künstler die Bestandteile aus Johannes Ittens Typologie der Farben und ordnet sie neu. Ohne eine feste Regel direkt zu übernehmen, summieren sie sich unterbrochen von transparent eingegrauten ‚Scharnier-Scheiben‘.
Mit dem Lauf der Sonne fällt farbiges Licht auf die Seitenfassade, den Haupteingang und die vorbeiführende Straße. Gleichermaßen sinnlich und logisch verbindet Riedigers Arbeit Kunst und Architektur sowie Geschichte und Gegenwart. Geschickt spannt sie einen Bogen vom Bauhaus zu Johannes Ittens späterem Wirkungsort Zürich: Der Berner war einer der prägenden Bauhaus-Meister in Weimar. Hier entstand auch seine Farbglasarbeit ‚Turm des Feuers‘. Als ‚entartet’ aus Deutschland vertrieben, wirkte er in Zürich als einflussreicher Künstler der ‚Zürcher Konkreten‘, leitete jeweils mehrere Jahre die Kunstgewerbeschule, das Museum Rietberg und die Textilfachschule. Mit diesem letzten Punkt schließt sich der Kreis zur Textilfärberei.
Der Farbkreis nach Itten dient als Quelle für mehrere Arbeiten Ritchie Riedigers.

Coloured glass roof according to Johannes Itten´s chromatic circle at the power station
of the former textile dyeing company Terlinden / Zurich – Küsnacht (CH) / 2019
The power station of the former textile dyeing company Terlinden consists of a group of buildings whose transparentand dynamic architecture is enhanced by a 100 m2 glass roof above the main entrance.With THE CHROMATIC CIRCLE OF JOHANNES ITTEN, Ritchie Riediger enriches this hitherto transparentglass roof with a colour concept. To this end, the artist dissolves the components of Johannes Itten‘s typologyof colours and rearranges them. Without following any fixed rules, they add up – interspersed with grey ‚hingeglass‘. As the sun goes down, coloured light falls onto the facade, the main entrance, and the bypassing road.
Equally sensually and logically, Riediger‘s work combines art and architecture as well as the past and the present.It cleverly spans an arc from the Bauhaus to Johannes Itten‘s later domain Zurich: The Bernese was one of the defining Bauhaus masters in Weimar. His colour glass work ‚Tower of Fire‘ was created there. After being expelled as ‚degenerate‘ from Nazi-Germany, he worked in Zurich as an influential artist of the ‚Zürcher Konkreten‘. For several years, he ran the Kunstgewerbeschule (school of applied arts), the Museum Rietberg, and the professional secondary school for textile. This completes the circle to the textile dyeing company.
The chromatic circle of Itten has served as a source for several works by Ritchie Riediger.
